PROJECT DESCRIPTIONSSI was brought in initially for several smaller projects on the site ranging from trim repairs to custom French door replacements. Based on our performance the consultant and board of directors asked SSI to provide some invasive investigation support for two failing decks on one building. Everyone knew there were going to be issues so they wanted to make sure they had a great general contractor involved from the beginning. During the invasive investigation scope it was evident that the decks had failed to the point of causing significant structural damages to the building. SSI completed the demolition and found that several of the main structural glulam beams, wall framing, deck framing, sheathing, windows and siding had all failed and were going to need to be replaced. SSI had to shore up the building and we began the deconstruction phase of the project. Heavy equipment was used to lift out the damaged beams and install the new 1,200 lb beams at multiple locations. New framing was installed where needed and full seismic upgrades were done to the exposed areas. New sheathing and water resistant barriers were installed. A new exterior deck waterproofing system was installed with a tile top. All new trim and siding was installed and tied in where removed. The project was completed during the cold and wet pacific northwest winter season.
